REASI, Jan 29: Senior National Conference (NC) leader and former Minister Ajay Sadhotra today lamented over the dual control of governance in Jammu and Kashmir and the delay in the restoration of Statehood, claiming that these factors have severely impacted governance, leaving the people in distress.
Addressing a public meeting at Reasi, organized by Tariq Bhat Zonal vice president and Raj Kumar Sharma, District president Reasi, Sadhotra recalled that the Union Govt had made a commitment before the Supreme Court and Parliament of the Country that J&K will be granted Statehood after the conduct of elections. However, the BJP continues to delay this Constitutional Right, which is further deepening the hardships faced by the people.
NC leader claimed that the dual control over the administration has severely affected the overall governance and retarded the pace of development. Such a situation is detrimental in the larger interests of the sensitive J&K that needs focused attention on development, coordinated delivery system, fast tracking recruitment process, he said, adding that this can be achieved with a single minded approach.
Sadhotra said the people of J&K have hugely suffered during past one decade due to absence of a popular government as lack of accountability to the public used to be a norm as a result of which the people’s grievances kept piling up. He pointed out that the delivery system of essential services had been compromised during those years, with developmental projects moving at a sluggish pace. The absence of an elected Government had created a disconnect between the administration and the people, leading to growing discontent.
Former Minister Abdul Gani Malik said the NC remains steadfast in its demand for the immediate restoration of Statehood and urges the Central Government to honor its commitment to the people of J&K so that the people can finally experience sustainable development and mitigation of their problems..
MLA Gulabgarh Ch Khursheed Ahmed also spoke on the occasion. He said Omar Government is working in a mission mode to fulfill the promises made with the people.
Prominent among those present on this occasion included Ayub Malik, CM Sharma, RS Manhas, Aslam Khan, Abdul Gani Teli, Sumita Bhan and Pinki Khalsa.
