Deepavali’s inclusion in UNESCO list is a moment of pride: Delhi CM

NEW DELHI, Dec 10: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday said that it is a moment of pride for Bharat that the festival of lights, Deepavali, has been inscribed on UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Gupta taking to social media platform X stated,”A festival that lives in our homes and hearts is today recognised by the world as a cultural treasure shared by humanity.”

Delhi CM also said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country’s civilisational heritage is receiving historic global acknowledgement and this milestone reflects our journey of ‘Vikas bhi, Virasat bhi.’

“Gratitude to UNESCO and to every family, artisan and devotee who has nurtured this tradition with love and continuity,” she added.

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva also welcomed the listing of Deepavali (Diwali) as part of World Heritage at the UNESCO session.

Sachdeva said that Diwali, the festival of lighting lamps, spreading cleanliness, and illuminating surroundings with the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi, is celebrated with great joy throughout the country, starting from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.

The Delhi BJP chief also said that it is a festival of sharing happiness, and people share joy with not only family members, friends, colleagues, but also the underprivileged by giving gifts, sweets etc.

The Delhi BJP chief further said that to celebrate the UNESCO listing, when the Government of India and the Delhi government are decorating and illuminating their offices on Wednesday evening, the state unit of the party has also decided to decorate and illuminate its office for two days.
