JAMMU, Sept 10: Provincial Power Employees Union (PPEU) has urged the higher authorities in the Power Development Department to explain clearly the fate of temporary and other workers before its plan of privatization of transmission, distribution and revenue collection system.
While talking to media-persons here today PPEU, chairman Shakti Gupta said that thousands of workers of the PDD under different categories are worried about their fate with the plan of Government regarding outsourcing of power distribution and revenue collection system by the State Government. He said many employees were there with the department for over 20 to 30 years and the Government should come out with a white paper regarding the fate of the existing employees who are performing their duties with dedication for decades.
Mr Gupta said with this move, a sense of insecurity for their service career has been created among the workers whether they are working as daily wagers, contractual or as casual workers. He pointed out that most of the Corporations and Boards of neighbouring States are running on the same pattern but the question of power losses there is lesser as compared to J&K. It is not necessary that same pattern will be effective in out State as well, he maintained.
The PPEU members urged the Government to review its decision and also publish the same for the information of the concerned if Government intended to go ahead with it. They also demanded issuance of seniority list before conduct of DPC, disclose actual number of posts lying vacant in Kashmir and Jammu regions, shun discriminatory attitude in adjustment of RBA, ALC category candidates with the open category in Jammu region and provide tool kits to field staff.
