DDC inaugurates 3-day historic Sankri Devta Mela

UDHAMPUR, Aug 27: District Development Commissioner, Dr. Piyush Singla, today inaugurated 3-day historic Sankri Devta Mela amidst beating of drums and festivity in village Meer tehsil Panchari of district Udhampur.
SSP Udhampur, Rajiv Omparkash Pandey and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the DDC said that such festivals not only fulfill religious aspirations but give an opportunity to pure thoughts and deeds to lead a dignified and divine life.
While appreciating the local students of the area who participated in various games and cultural programmes, the DDC asked the Sports Department to provide these students a chance to participate in district level sports competition. He said that Government of India has launched various schemes for welfare of general public and appealed the gathering to come forward and avail maximum benefit of these schemes.
After inaugurating the Mela, the DDC had a round of stalls installed by various departments like, Agriculture, Horticulture, Sericulture, Animal and Sheep Husbandry, Fisheries, Health, Tourism, RDD, for general awareness regarding different schemes. He called upon the officers to make their sincere and dedicated efforts to make the general public aware about the different Central and State Government sponsored schemes tailored especially for upliftment of rural people.
District administration has made elaborate arrangements for smooth conduct of the Mela like uninterrupted power, safe drinking water, sanitation, medicare, Police Control Room, assistance booth and security.
