UDHAMPUR, Feb 18: First meeting of newly constituted District Library Council was convened today to discuss the project to develop District Library as a knowledge hub and provide 24×7 services. The District Library is being established with collaboration of various departments, banks and organisation for providing a knowledge sharing platform in the district and to provide learning avenues.
The Library functioning 24×7 will have more than 30,000 books on various subjects, Internet Cafe, e-Garnthalya by NIC, air-conditioning, teaching-learning material, canteen, printers, computers, scanners, and photostat machines and will be equipped with CCTV and digital security. An Android App will be made available for members to avail e-books facility. The inventory of books will be made available to members online to choose from.
A District Library Council with members drawn from all walks of life has been entrusted with development of infrastructure and resource material. Books related to competitive examinations, research, biographies, literature, law, engineering, science, humanities and core subjects of Graduation, PG, and specialised examinations will be a part of library. The library will also have books of Sanskrit, Hindi, Dogri, Gojri and other regional languages as well as on current affairs, General Knowledge arts and social issues. More than two dozen magazines and newspapers will be subscribed. The library will have its own dedicated canteen for its members. District Library will also cater to counselling of candidates for various examinations of SSB and PSC apart from providing examination related services.
District Development Commissioner, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, deliberated upon the plan and timeline for execution and launch of 24*7 library dedicated to public. A lot of suggestions were given by the members and invitees for the library. It was decided that PWD will construct a Hall for weekly Literary Interaction Programme and Knowledge Exchange Series. DDC provided Rs 5 lakh from Untied Grants and an amount of Rs 12 lakh will be provided by departments and Panchayats. Vikram Gulati, Member of DLC extended contribution of Rs 1 lakh for books.
Members of the committees including CPO Rakesh Jamwal, DTO Romesh Singh, ACD Joginder Singh Rai, CMO Dr Chander Parkash, DSWO Rachna Sharma, CEO Bishan Singh, DIO-NIC Anil Sharma, , CEO-MC Udhampur K K Chalotra,Lead District Manager NABARD, Executive Engineer PWD, Principal GHSS Boys and GHSS Girls Udhampur, AEE PWD Udhampur,BDO Chenani, Non-official members including Advocate Swatantra Dev Kotwal, Adv J D Slathia, Dainik Jagran Journalist, Amit Mahi, Deepankar Gupta (Beopar Mandal), Rajguru, Anil Dubey (Journalist), Sarpanches, other members and school students as special invitees attended the meeting.
