SAMBA, Mar 28: Deputy Commissioner Ayushi Sudan today chaired a meeting of the District Level Committee under the Narcotics Coordination (NCORD) framework here at the DC Office Complex.
The Deputy Commissioner conducted a thorough review of the Action Taken Report on anti-narcotics measures and laid down a sharply focused, multi-pronged strategy to dismantle drug networks and rehabilitate those already ensnared by addiction.
Ms. Sudan directed to strengthen the Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF) under District Hospital for greater outreach, while simultaneously calling for a significant ramp-up in the training of teachers and educators as counsellors — recognising that schools and colleges represent the first and most critical line of defence in protecting the youth.
Underlining the power of community awareness, the Deputy Commissioner stressed the need for intensifying awareness campaigns and the organisation of pan-departmental Mega Camps under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. She further directed concerned departments to proactively engage the youth through orientation programmes and sports events, channelling their energy into constructive pursuits that serve as a natural barrier against substance abuse.
A key highlight of the meeting was the emphasis placed on publicising the national toll-free narcotics helpline MANAS (Madak Padarth Nishedh Asuchna Kendra) – 1933, which empowers citizens to anonymously report drug-related activities.
The district’s dedicated helpline for substance abuse victims 7889720593— offering guidance on treatment and counselling — was also highlighted as a vital bridge between affected individuals and available support systems.
In a forward-looking measure, the Deputy Commissioner directed departments to extend employment and livelihood opportunities to recovering individuals through targeted schemes such as Mission YUVA, reinforcing the administration’s belief that rehabilitation must go hand-in-hand with economic empowerment.
The meeting was attended by SSP Samba Virender Singh Manhas, ADC Samba Jagdish Singh, Programme Officer ICDS, Chief Medical Officer, Sub-Divisional Magistrates, Chief Education Officer, college principals and other senior district and sectoral officers reflecting the whole-of-government approach that defines Samba’s battle against narcotics.
