REASI, Aug 25: A meeting of the District-Level Narco Coordination Committee (NCORD) was today convened under the chairpersonship of Deputy Commissioner Reasi Nidhi Malik to review ongoing anti-drug measures and devise strategies to eliminate the menace from the district.
The DC emphasised the need for strong coordination and intelligence sharing among all key stakeholders, including Police, the Drug Controller, Medical and other concerned departments, to dismantle supply chains and bring drug peddlers to justice. She directed the Assistant Drug Controller to keep strict vigil on the sale of habit-forming drugs and ensure stern action against violators. The Police authorities were asked to intensify enforcement efforts further.
The DC also reviewed the progress of awareness campaigns being carried out under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan in the district. She instructed Block Development Officers (BDOs) to fast-track pending activities and to ensure that all events are genuine, impactful, and focus on spreading awareness among youth and children rather than just fulfilling formalities.
The Education Department was tasked with sensitising students against drug abuse during school assemblies, while the Sports Department was directed to organise awareness programmes through sports events to engage young people constructively.
Discussions were also held on strengthening rehabilitation measures, ensuring adequate availability of drug-testing kits, destruction of cannabis cultivation, and undertaking plantation drives.
Reiterating her commitment to a zero-tolerance approach towards narcotics, DC Nidhi Malik called for proactive community participation to eradicate the menace from society.
The meeting was attended by SSP Reasi Paramveer Singh, ADC Rakesh Kumar, ACR Nitin Verma, PO POSHAN, CMO, DSWO and other concerned officers.
