DC proposes strict measures to control accidents

REASI, Apr 10: Deputy Commissioner Reasi Ravinder Kumar, who is also Chairman of District Road Safety Committee (DRSC), convened a meeting with officers and transport unions here today.
Senior Superintendent of Police Tahir Bhat, ADC Babu Ram, CMO L D Bhagat, ARTO, Tehsildars and representatives of traffic, GREF and transport unions attended the meeting. Threadbare discussion was made on the issues like traffic management, road maintenance, availability of cranes, provision of men and machinery at the sliding zones, checking of the vehicles and proper coordination among traffic police, transport authorities and police department.
The DC instructed the authorities for strict action against rule violators and seizing of mobiles from those who use it while driving. He emphasized on regular sensitization of drivers and bikers for ensuring safe driving on the road.
It was also decided in the meeting that wearing of helmets and tying of seat belt would be made compulsory for which police and transport agencies shall ensure enforcement of the same. In this regard, DC instructed the concerned to fix a day to launch this campaign along with submitting a progress report.
Instructions were also issued to the executing agencies for proper road maintenance, installation of crash barriers, parapets and other sinages at working sites and incident prone areas.
Besides initiating direct actions like suspension of license, imposing fines and other penalties, DC also asked the concerned officers for conducting regular workshops, awareness camps and individual counseling of the drivers so that they develop habits of safe driving.
Further, thrust was given in the meeting for evolving teams of volunteers and QRTs squads for making the public vigilant and well aware to curb the practice of underage and delinquent driving besides handling any type of exigency on the roads.
Earlier, ARTO and SSP apprised the DC on transportation system in the district and gave their suggestions to minimize road accidents. They also outlined public role in setting up a system of healthy driving among drivers.
