POONCH, June 21: In a significant development for media fraternity of Poonch, the District Press Club was officially inaugurated today by Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Vikas Kundal.
The ceremony was marked by the presence of senior civil and police administration officials, including Additional Superintendent of Police Mohan Lal, alongside other dignitaries. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from prominent members of the local media community, including N S Talwar, Ramesh Bali, Ishrat Bhat, Slil Raina, J B Singh, Munish Sharma, Randhir Singh, Niaz Shah, Rajesh Khajuria, Neelam Ajnabi, Nipun Khajuria, Shahzad Bhatt, Bhopinder Singh and others.
In their joint statement, the media fraternity of Poonch extended heartfelt appreciation to the district and police administrations for fulfilling their longstanding demand for a dedicated press club. They affirmed that the Press Club will function as a central body for journalists across the district-including Mendhar, Mandi, Surankote, and Haveli-ensuring unity and better coordination.
Speaking on the occasion, Vikas Kundal stated, “The administration is proud to hand over this space to the media on a temporary basis, and plans are underway to develop a permanent Press Club campus. The new facility will serve as a vibrant hub for all journalistic activities in the region.”
Acknowledging the role of the local press in upholding democracy and serving the public, officials from the civil and police departments, along with MLA Haveli and other leaders, also expressed support for the journalists of Poonch. The event concluded with a collective resolve to strengthen the media landscape in the district through collaboration and professionalism.
