DB takes serious note of dysfunctional MRI machine

JAMMU, Feb 25: A Division Bench of High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh comprising Chief Justice Arun Palli and Justice Rajnesh Oswal took serious note of dysfunctional MRI Machine at Government Medical College Hospital Jammu and two dysfunctional CT Scan Machines at Super Specialty Hospital and SMGS Hospital and directed Principal Government Medical College Jammu to file his affidavit by or before March 9, 2026.

When the much publicized Public Interest Litigation, which was registered suo-moto by the Division Bench on the basis of a report published in Daily Excelsior with regard to sudden stoppage of lifesaving cardiac-implants, stents and consumables affecting ongoing cardiac services such as angiography, angioplasty, stenting and CCU management came-up for hearing, Advocate Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed appearing as amicus-curie informed the Division Bench in the open court that patients in Jammu are suffering because of dysfunctional MRI machine since one and a half month at GMC Jammu and apart from this the CT scan machines at Super Specialty Hospital and SMGS Hospital are lying dysfunctional for the last more than one year.
Advocate S S Ahmed with Advocate Supriya Chouhan further submitted that this issue has also been highlighted on several occasions by print and electronic media but the authorities are totally unmoved and the poor patients are compelled to seek these facilities from private players.
After considering the submissions of Advocate SS Ahmed, the Division Bench expressed displeasure over the reported dysfunctional machines vital for health-care and directed Principal GMC Jammu to file his affidavit on this issue of wide public importance by or before March 9, 2026.
In the main Public Interest Litigation, Senior AAG Monika Kohli with Advocate Sagira Jaffer informed the Division Bench that the affidavit of SSP Jammu pursuant to the directions of the Division Bench issued on the last date of hearing, has been filed.
However, the same was not on the record and at this stage, Advocate SS Ahmed apprised the Division Bench in the open court that the police has closed the complaint as not proved.
Upon this, the Division Bench directed the personal appearance of the Investigating Officer on the next date of hearing along with the Case Dairies.
