JAMMU, Sept 9: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Rattan Singh and others seeking demolition or removal of the encroachments on the water bodies, Division Bench of High Court comprising Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice BS Walia today directed the State to file status report with regard to four wetlands—Pargwal, Sangral, Kukriya and Nanga.
After hearing Senior Advocate M K Bhardwaj with Advocate Gagan Kohli for the PIL, the DB observed, “status report filed by R S Jamwal, DeputyAG with regard to installation of Flood Control Casting Management System is taken on record and he is directed to apprise the court with regard to further steps taken by the respondents”.
It is worthwhile to mention here that earlier High Court had directed respondents to initiate an action for removal of encroachments from the areas of Gharana wetland as well as other water bodies situated in Hiranagar tehsil, Akhnoor tehsil and Reasi district within a period of six weeks and complete the process as expeditiously as possible.
