PIL regarding illegal constructions around Rly Stn Katra

JAMMU, May 28: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) regarding illegal constructions around the railway station in Katra, a Division Bench of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court comprising Chief Justice Arun Palli and Justice Rajnesh Oswal has directed the Chief Executive Officer, Katra Development Authority; Executive Officer, Katra Development Authority; Executive Officer, Municipal Committee Katra as also Deputy Commissioner Reasi to appear before the court on the adjourned date, in person or through virtual mode on July 7.
When PIL came-up for hearing, the counsel for the petitioner submitted that High Court vide order dated December 31, 2013 had categorized the illegal constructions in the holy town of Katra in five separate categories. He further submitted that although the order was assailed by some of the violators before the Supreme Court but that was dismissed on January 15, 2014. However, they were given liberty to move J&K High Court to review the order.
It was also informed to the Division Bench that even the Review Application filed by them was dismissed on January 30, 2014. “The matter is pending before this court for a decade and during this period, the authorities have furnished numerous affidavits. However, in essence, the matter has not made any tangible progress on the ground”, the counsel for the PIL added.
Trhe DB observed, “before we proceed any further, we consider it expedient to direct the Chief Executive Officer, Katra Development Authority; Executive Officer, Katra Development Authority; Executive Officer, Municipal Committee Katra as also Deputy Commissioner Reasi to appear before this court on the adjourned date, in person or through virtual mode”.
