JAMMU, Sept 13: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking direction to the respondents to restrain the illegal operation of stone crushers in Doda, Division Bench of the State High Court comprising First Puisne Judge Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Sanjay Kumar Gupta today issued notice to Deputy Commissioner and SSP Doda returnable within six weeks.
When the PIL came up for hearing, Advocate Javid Iqbal submitted that 12 stone crushers are operating illegally and are on official record of the district administration but there are many more illegal stone crushers but are nowhere on the official record of the district administration till date.
“Their unauthorised/illegal operation is not only posing threats to the environment and ecology but also to the life and property of inhabitants of this area and there are apprehensions this may eventually lead to a big natural calamity in near future”, he further submitted, adding “the Baglihar dam is already in natural mechanism of eating away these rocks and has laid high effects on the micro-climate of this region with a characteristics features of cloud bursts and floods that has become common and are leading to massive landslides and causing destruction to life and property”, adding “the stone crushers are also quarrying illegally”.
