DB directs for fast pace probe into infant abandonment

JAMMU, Apr 10: Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Tashi Rabstan today directed the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit Srinagar to complete investigation into alleged incident of abandonment and trafficking of an infant as early as possible.
When the PIL came up for hearing, the DB observed, “as per the status report dated 5th April, 2019 filed by the respondents keeping in view the best interest of the child with whose welfare this petition is concerned, temporary custody has been handed over to a couple and the same is being supervised by the Child Welfare Committee, Budgam”.
“The Child Welfare Committee, Budgam, shall ensure welfare of the child in question and the police shall ensure completion of investigation into FIR No.01 of 2018 registered at Police Station Anti Human Trafficking Unit, Srinagar, and proceed in the matter in accordance with law”, the DB directed.
DB further directed the Child Welfare Committee, Budgam, to file its quarterly reports regarding the welfare of the child before the Principal District Judge, Budgam, who shall ensure the welfare of the child.
