SRINAGAR, Feb 7: Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) today pitched for online pharmacies in Kashmir which would provide easy and convenient tool for the consumers to procure medicines required by them.
Terming it consumer empowerment, the DAK president, Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan said online pharmacies would provide the opportunity for patients to order their medicines from the comfort and privacy of home. “They would order their medicines from their computer or phone which would be delivered at their doorstep. The technology would enable patients to buy medicines easily and would prevent them from moving around to look for drugs,” he said, adding that this would be of great help to senior citizens or consumers who cannot go out on their own to purchase medicines
He said with full tracking systems and solid technology backend, counterfeit medicines can be traced back to the manufacturer/supplier, thereby making the market a lot more transparent and ensuring that authenticity is strictly maintained. “Medicines can be sold only by a registered pharmacy and it is mandatory to have the prescription for the medicine,” the DAK president said.
“Indian laws related to pharmacies were written prior to arrival of computer, let alone internet. Though pharma act has no clarity on electronic copy of a prescription, but IT act says that any digital copy of a document is valid, if there is an original copy which can be presented at the time of verification”, he said.
“While in rest of the world, patients avail the benefits of this technology for some time now, we are falling behind. With more consumers willing to buy medicines online, the timing is just right for online pharmacies,” he added.
