These daily wagers under the banner of All J&K Daily Wagers Sangharsh Samiti assembled near Press Club here today and started protest demonstration. They were shouting slogans in support of their demands of regularization of their services and to implement Common Minimum Wages Act in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.
Carrying banners in hands and depicting slogans, the protestors were holding massive demonstration. Several leaders including Sunny Kant Chib, Javid Ahmed and others addressed the gathering and criticized the UT authorities for not enhancing their wages.
These protesting workers were demanding regularization of their service and implementation of Minimum Common Wages Act as introduced in the UT of Ladakh. They said that many daily wagers are working for the last over 20 years but their services have not been regularized. Even the cooks/ safai workers in the schools are getting Rs 30 per day wages which is sheer exploitation by the Government organisations.
They warned to intensify their agitation in future if the Government failed to address their issues. After protesting for over two hours they dispersed.
