SRINAGAR, Apr 5: A Cyber Awareness Programme was organized today at Headquarters of IRP 11th Battalion in Anantnag.
The programme was attended by officers/officials of the Unit. The main motive behind conducting the Programme was to sensitize the police personnel about the cyber crimes prevalent in the society, their latest trends and to make them aware about the remedial measures.
SSP Sandeep Mehta, Commandant IRP-11th Battalion delivered the inaugural speech regarding online cyber frauds carried out by cyber criminals. Various facets of cyber crimes and cyber criminals were discussed in detail.
Malik Durafshan Afroz, an Assistant Professor from Government Degree College (Women) Anantnag, was the resource person for the event whereas both the Deputy COs of the Battalion namely Sajjad Shah (SP) and Altaf Ahmed (SP) also presented their respective talks on the topic. The Programme was designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of various types of cybercrime, including phishing, online banking fraud, social media crime, identity theft and online fraud, and the techniques to prevent them.
Speaking on the occasion, the guest faculty advised the participants to be aware while surfing the internet and do not fall prey to cyber criminals. The speakers advised the participants not to open/click links without knowing the source of origin and mode of transmission through different internet applications.
The participants were taught about safe internet practices such as using strong passwords, being cautious of clicking on suspicious links and avoiding sharing personal information via online. The program was interactional and participants were encouraged in understanding of cyber crimes and preventions therein.
