CWC Srinagar ‘rescues’ 14 non-local children in ‘Street Situation’

SRINAGAR, Oct 4: In a joint effort, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) Srinagar conducted a ‘Child in Street Situation’ drive today in Lal Chowk during which a total of 14 non-local children were “rescued.”
These children, as per officials, were discovered at traffic signals, engaged in work at various shops, and begging in parks and markets.
Dr. Khair Ul Nissa, the Chairperson of CWC, confirmed to “Excelsior” that during the operation, 14 children were rescued from the designated hotspots in the City Centre. “These children, both boys and girls, were found either working or begging at various locations.”
Out of the 14 non-local children who were “rescued,” 10 were boys, and four were girls. Dr. Nissa stated that all of the rescued children have been relocated to CWC’s office in Bemina, from where they will be transferred to shelter homes.
Dr. Nissa stated, “We will be reaching out to their parents and guardians to ensure their proper rehabilitation. Those in vulnerable situations will receive the necessary care and support.”
She further added, “We plan to offer extensive counseling to these children to prevent such activities in the future.”
The ‘Child in Street Situation’ drive was executed under the vigilant supervision of Dr. Khair Ul Nissa, the Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee, in collaboration with the concerned Police Station and the District Child Protection Unit Srinagar.
