SRINAGAR, Sept 10: The curfew continued in Shopian for the third day today while Government imposed curfew like restrictions in Pulwama and Kulgam districts following the call for march to Shopian by Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
The curfew, imposed in Shopian on Sunday after the death of four people in Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) firing on September 7 at Gagran, continued for third day today.
The curfew in Shopian was more strictly imposed today on the occasion of the fourth day of the deceased persons. Geelani had called for Shopian march to express solidarity with the families of deceased youth.
The curfew like restrictions were extended to Kulgam and Pulwama towns while restrictions under Section 144 CrPC were being strictly implemented in other parts of these South Kashmir districts.
Additional security forces were deployed to strictly implement the curfew restrictions. However, the District Magistrates of these districts had directed the security forces to treat identity cards of students appearing in different examinations as curfew passes. The security forces have also been advised to allow patients and their attendants to go to hospitals.
All roads leading to the houses of deceased youths were sealed with concertina razor wire and nobody was allowed to go there.
Security forces had to burst teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge at several places in South Kashmir districts of Kulgam and Shopian to disperse the demonstrators, demanding shifting of CRPF camp and arrest of those personnel involved in the killing of youths.
Syed Ali Shah Geelani and several other separatists were put under house arrest to prevent them from visiting the deceased families. The others who were under house arrest included Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik, National Front Chairman Nayeem Khan, Shabir Ahmad Shah, Zaffar Akbar Bhat.
