CUJ organizes lecture on Indo-China relations

JAMMU, Sept 7: The Department of National Security Studies (DNSS), Central University of Jammu (CUJ), organised the Eminent Lecture Series on “The New NDA Regime and India-China Relations: Expectations and Possibilities”, here today.
Prof Alka Acharya, Director, Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS), Delhi, who was the key speaker of the event, began her presentation by referring on two basic points of the history and power of the two nations. “India-China share common history and Hindi-Chini Bhai Bhai slogan is evident of their traditional connection that came to an end in 1962 with Chinese intention to increase its power in the region,” the speaker said and mentioned about the One Road, One Belt (OROB), project which involves Pakistan, but criticized by Indian Government.
She divulged the huge reality gap between rises of China and India (a common notion) of the 21st century. Emphasizing on the positive relationship (exchange of visits between leaders) between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese Premiere Xi Jinping, she explained that the China may reconsider its position on the border issues and culture to play important role, than trade and politics.
The lecture was followed by a discussion where interesting questions on economy, culture, politics, security, refugees etc were raised.   In her response and in short, Prof Alka stated that China has been maintaining a stable environment in every aspect where India can also appreciate and learn.
CUJ Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ashok Aima, who presided over the session, made some interesting remarks on the India-China relations. He explained about the systems of Government and bureaucrats in China.  He also emphasized about the ethnic elements, Muslims who are settling in Xinxiang province in China.
The session concluded with vote of thanks given by Dr Jeganaathan, Assistant Professor, DNSS.
Earlier, Prof Lokesh Verma, Academic Coordinator, CUJ, presented a formal welcome address and introduced the topic.
Meanwhile, a MoU was also signed between the DNSS and ICS to work on common academic research agendas and exchange of scholars/students.
