CUJ organizes international seminar- Travelism: 2021

JAMMU, Sept 28: Two-day international seminar `Travelism: 2021′, organized by the Department of Tourism and Travel Management, Central University of Jammu (CUJ) concluded today.
In the valedictory event, the eminent guests were Parvez Dewan, Ex Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India; Saleem Beg, Convener, INTACT, J&K; Professor Flavia Stara from University of Macerata, Italy; Naveen Kumar, Panki Sood and Vaibhav Sharma, the three young successful entrepreneurs.
Parvez Dewan, who was chief guest of the occasion, highlighted the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on tourism and enlightened the audience that tourism in India is mostly domestic centric as just one percent of the total tourist movement in India comes from the foreign tourists while rest 99 percent are domestic tourists. He emphasized that in the recovery phase we should primarily focus on the domestic tourists, especially pilgrimage tourism.
Saleem Beg, who was key note speaker of the event, emphasized on the importance of tourism in economic viability and infrastructure development. He added that tourism helps in conservation of art and craft.
Professor Flavia Stara from University of Macerata, Italy, the second keynote speaker, elaborated how entrepreneurs in Italy have come up with innovative products like staycations and agri tourism during the pandemic phase.
CUJ Vice Chancellor Professor Ashok Aima, in his presidential address, emphasised on the development of tourism in a holistic way. He also emphasized on the importance of the role of Central University of Jammu in producing quality human resource for the industry.
Industry expert Naveen Kumar, Panki Sood, and Vaibhav Sharma shared about their professional experiences of the trade with the audience. The session was followed by a question and answer session between the experts from the industry and the students.
The event was convened by Dr Bharti Gupta, Coordinator, Department of Tourism and Travel Management. Rahul Thakur presented the report of the event. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Ranjeet Kumar Raman. The organising team includes Dr Amit Gangotia, Dr Ranjeet Kumar Raman, Rahul Thakur, Dr Rabinder Singh and Manjeet Singh.
Earlier, on the inaugural day , Surbhi Dadheechi and Jeevan Lal Verma were the key note speakers. Surbhi Dadheechi has 13 years experience in the travel trade while Jeevan Lal Verma, a Global Rattan Awardee, is Director of Rural Organisation for Social Elevation.
