CUJ hosts workshop on ‘Cyber Shield: Defending the Digital Footprints’

JAMMU, Feb 3: The Department of Computer Science and Information Technology, Central University of Jammu, today inaugurated the National Workshop–cum Awareness Program “Cyber Shield: Defending the Digital Footprints”.
The four-day program is aimed to create awareness about cyber safety, digital responsibility, and protection of personal data in the digital era.
The inaugural session was graced by Prof Yashwant Singh, Registrar, Central University of Jammu. In his address, Prof Yashwant emphasized the importance of being vigilant and responsible in the digital world and highlighted the growing need for cyber security awareness among students and citizens.
Prof Dinesh Kumar, Head, Department of Computer Science and IT, delivered the introductory remarks and guided the participants on the objectives of the workshop. He also shared practical safety tips for navigating the digital world, emphasizing the importance of using strong passwords, safeguarding personal information, being cautious of suspicious links, and maintaining responsible online behaviour.
The unveiling of the “Cyber Kavach” booklet by Prof Yashwant Singh along with faculty members of the department took place during the inaugural session. The booklet highlights essential cyber safety guidelines and best practices for secure digital engagement.
Prof Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu, conveyed his best wishes for the success of the event and appreciated the efforts of the department in organizing such a relevant and timely program.
The program has been organized in collaboration with the National Institute of Social Defence, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, whose support played a vital role in making the workshop a national-level initiative. Resource persons shared their knowledge and experiences related to cyber safety, digital footprints, and online security, which greatly benefited the participants.
The event is coordinated by Pankaj Choudhary, Zakir Ahmad Sheikh, and Dr Suresh V Limkar, along with the support of faculty members, staff, and student volunteers.
