JAMMU, Sept 4: Chandigarh University (CU) achieved yet another milestone by securing the 19th rank among all Government and private universities in India in the 10th edition of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025, released by the Union Ministry of Education today.
CU has also emerged as the No. 1 private university in North India, further cementing its position as one of the country’s fastest-growing higher education institutions.
Established in 2012, Chandigarh University has witnessed a remarkable rise in national rankings in just 12 years. The university made its NIRF debut in 2021 at the 77th position, climbed to 27th in 2023, 20th in 2024, and now secured the 19th rank in 2025 – marking a four-fold improvement within five years.
Chandigarh University has shown consistent progress across academic disciplines. Among all India private universities, CU secured 9th rank in both the Overall and University categories this year.
In Engineering, it improved to the 31st rank nationally and ranked 7th among private universities.
In Management, CU climbed to the 32nd position nationally, securing the 7th rank among private universities and the 1st in Punjab.
The university’s debut in the Research category was particularly impressive, with CU securing the 34th rank in India and 1st rank among North India’s private universities.
In Pharmacy, CU registered a sharp rise, climbing from 34th in 2023 to 15th in 2025. The university also emerged as the best in Architecture and Planning, securing the 14th position nationally and the 2nd rank among private universities.
Speaking on the occasion, Deep Inder Singh Sandhu, Senior Managing Director of Chandigarh University, said, “Securing the 19th rank in just 12 years since inception is a matter of great pride. This stellar performance is a testament to our commitment to academic excellence, placements, research, and innovation, placing CU among India’s elite institutions like IITs and IIMs.”
Highlighting the debut performance in the Research category, Sandhu added, “Our 34th rank in India and 1st among private universities in Punjab reflects our growing culture of innovation and knowledge creation. This reinforces our vision to position CU as a global hub of research excellence.”
Sandhu further emphasized that NIRF rankings are a strong endorsement of CU’s industry-aligned education, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and commitment to inclusivity and affordability.
