JAMMU, Aug 2: College Teacher Association (CTA) urged Minister for Higher Education and Government to impress upon the Public Service Commission to fill up the recently sanctioned posts of Assistant Professors and also that of permanent Principals in colleges, on war footing.
Dr Avinash Kumar Gupta, president, J&K College Teachers Association said that the approval of 1129 posts of Assistant Professors for Government Degree Colleges by the State Cabinet is unprecedented in the history of Higher Education Department, as such a large number of posts were neither created nor approved in one go.
This move will not only address the problems of student community but also give an employment opportunity to the eligible and highly educated youth of the State, who otherwise were employed as contractual lecturers on modest salaries, Dr Gupta added.
He emphasized for removal of adhocism in teaching and expected a reduced dependence on contractual employment, which will result in availability of more funds for infrastructural development in the colleges and surely lift the educational standard in the State.
