SRINAGAR, Dec 24: The 128-slice advanced CT scan machine at the Department of Radiodiagnosis and Imaging, GMC Anantnag, was made functional today, several days after it developed a technical snag.
However, the second CT scanner-a 16-slice unit installed at the erstwhile District Hospital Anantnag in 2014-continues to remain non-functional.
Officials said that after sustained efforts by the GMC Anantnag administration, the advanced CT scan machine was restored “within the shortest possible time.”
They added that the second unit would be made functional soon, with the administration working on the issue “on a war-footing basis.”
The GMC administration expressed gratitude to the Government for providing the necessary support for the rapid restoration of the scanning and imaging equipment.
“Every day, 50 to 100 CT scans are performed at GMC Anantnag, and the patient load, along with scanning procedures, is expected to increase in the near future,” officials said.
Notably, to ensure continuity of diagnostic services, the GMC Anantnag administration had made interim arrangements with a private diagnostic centre, where patients were referred for CT scans at approved hospital rates.
Meanwhile, the demand for replacement of the old CT scan machine at the GMC is growing. ‘Excelsior’ was told that the ageing machine could develop technical snags at any time.
“There is a need to replace it, and the necessary space is already available,” locals said.
Pertinent to mention, hospital authorities have already stated that the requirement for a new emergency CT scan machine has been projected and is under active consideration by the college administration.
