KATHUA, Apr 11: A team of Commercial Taxes Department Lakhanpur seized 52 wooden logs illegally transported from the State during naka at Goondh Morh in tehsil Nagri.
As per Deputy Commissioner Commercial Taxes, Check Post Lakhanpur Puneet Sharma, a team of active sleuths of Commercial Taxes officers/ officials laid a Naka at Goondh Morh during the intervening night of April 9 and 10.
During the Naka, a vehicle bearing registration No. HP 55-1076 was intercepted and the vehicle was physically checked and it was found that the vehicle was carrying 52 wooden logs (poplar logs) which were being illegally transported to neighbouring State from J&K, thereby trying to grab the tax money through tax evasion.
The vehicle along with goods was seized and proceedings under the relevant Sections of J&K VAT Act, 2005 read with J&K VAT Rules, 2005 were initiated against the dealer/incharge/ owner of goods for recovery of penalty/tax committed by trying to export the taxable goods and thereby hoodwinking the department and injury to the State exchequer.
