JAMMU, Feb 28: A multilingual poetry meet organized by the Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL), in collaboration with Chanderbhaga Sanskriti Manch (CSM), Akhnoor was held here today.
O P Shakir, Popinder Singh Paras, Editor Sheeraza Punjabi, Jang S Verman, Rabia Khajuria and Dr Mushtaq Wani were present in the presidium.
Popinder Singh Paras in his welcome said that Akhnoor is a culturally rich place where hundreds of poets and writers have made significant contributions.
“The Academy aims to organize such programmes in far-flung areas of Jammu & Kashmir to promote literature and culture and to make the younger generation aware of their rich literary heritage,” he said.
In his presidential address Jang S Verman reflected on the conduct of multiple activities of the Academy particularly keeping in view to reach the youth and create awareness among them about their cultural and heritage and associating them with their roots.
O P Shakir, president, CSM also applauded the efforts of the Academy for organizing literary programmes at Akhnoor and strengthening cultural activities in the region.
The Principal, ITI Institute, also spoke on this occasion and appreciated the role of JKAACL and CSM for organizing such a meaningful literary event in the institute.
During the programme, Jang S Verman and Dr Mushtaq Ahmed Wani, senior Punjabi and Urdu poets, respectively, were felicitated for their rich contribution in the field of literature and culture.
Prominent poets who recited their poetry included Suraj Singh Suraj, Balwinder Singh, Ratan Bhardwaj, P Deepak, Naseeb Singh, Ichpal Singh, H S Upashak, Somi, Suraj Prakash Ratan, Sohan Lal Verma, Mohan Singh Khajuria, Komal Sharma, Dr Rakesh Verma, Kiran Prabha, Mamta Sharma and others.
The proceedings were conducted by Mohan Bharti while the vote of thanks was presented by Girish Parihar, Principal of the institution.
