SRINAGAR, June 23: Noting that the report will be reviewed after it is returned by the Law Department, Minister Sakeena Itoo today said that the Cabinet Sub-Committee (CSC) on reservation was formed for the people, not for those making noise on social media.
Speaking to reporters after dedicating buses to five Government Degree Colleges (GDCs) in Kashmir here, Itoo said that the Government is serious about the issue of reservation, which is why, she said, the CSC was formed.

“The committee was constituted for the people, not because someone tweeted about it. The Chief Minister is deeply concerned about the matter, and that’s why the committee was formed and given six months’ time,” she said.
The Minister said that the task of formulating the report was completed well before the deadline and that the report has been submitted to the Cabinet, which has forwarded it to the Law Department for review.
“The Cabinet has sent it to the Law Department. Once it is returned, it will be reviewed,” she said.
On the rationalization of teachers in the Education Department, Itoo said the process is already underway and has been achieved to a great extent.
“Promotions that were halted for years and a transfer policy that was not being followed-we have addressed these. Rationalization is taking place, and DPCs are being held. I congratulate the officers involved,” she said.
She added that the rationalization process will continue, and efforts will be made to identify teachers and send them to remote areas.
“The rest will have to go to far-off areas. Those who haven’t served in such regions will now be required to spend a few years there,” she said.
On the issue of additional charges being given to Principals, the Minister said that while there is a shortage of officers, steps are being taken to address the issue wherever officers are available.
“Before this Government, many posts of ZEOs, headmasters, and CEOs were vacant. But now, efforts are being made to fill these posts, and wherever needed, the matter will be taken care of,” she said.
Meanwhile, the colleges that received the buses included GDCs Kupwara, Sopore, Tangmarg, DH Pora and Tulail.
The flagging off ceremony was held at Abdul Ahad Azad Memorial College, Bemina.
“This initiative is aimed at empowering the students, particularly those from far-flung areas, by facilitating their daily commute to the colleges,” the Minister said.
She added that a similar initiative had recently been undertaken in the Jammu division, where five colleges were also provided buses.
Highlighting Government’s initiatives towards improving the education sector, the Minister said, “We are focused on raising the standards of education and ensuring that students at Government institutions have access to all necessary facilities, including reliable transport.”
She further stated that efforts are underway to extend such support to more colleges across Jammu and Kashmir.
During the function, the Minister interacted with the Principals, faculty members, NCC cadets and students.
