CS directs DCs to remove encroachments

SRINAGAR, Dec 11: Chief Secretary, Mohammad Iqbal Khandey, today reviewed the post flood rehabilitation work in Kashmir division at a high level meeting.
The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary Planning, Principal Secretary Finance, Commissioner Secretaries of PWD, PHE, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Secretaries of GAD, Revenue, CA&PD, Health, Chief Engineers of various Engineering Wings, Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Director Education, Kashmir, Director CA&PD Kashmir, Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation and other Divisional level officers.
Chief Secretary gave on spot directions to ensure speedy rehabilitation of all flood affected families. He directed Chief Engineer Flood Control and Commissioner, SMC to ensure immediate removal of all types of encroachments on the banks of river Jehlum.
He directed Deputy Commissioners to take steps to remove encroachments and trees from rivers and streams in their respective jurisdiction. Mr. Khandey interacted with all Deputy Commissioners of Kashmir division through video conference.
The Chief Secretary was informed that 90 percent construction work on temporary residential sheds has been completed. He was also informed that the 16 digit Account Numbers have been received from flood affectees.
Mr. Khandey directed that those families who choose to stay in rented accommodations be provided rent for a period of four months.
While reviewing the sanitation and other civic works, Chief Secretary directed Municipal authorities to put five additional vehicles in service besides one JCB to clear the debris. He also directed the PDD authorities to constitute checking squads for ensuring judicious use of electricity. He directed CA&PD authorities to lift back all commodities including rice and wheat from the godowns which were affected during the floods.
While reviewing traffic and transport in Srinagar city, Chief Secretary enjoined upon Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar to ensure smooth plying of traffic at TRC, Amira Kadal and Batmaloo and directed him to take stern action against encroachments on roads and foot paths meant for vehicles and pedestrians.
