UDHAMPUR, Jan 27: In a freak accident near Jakhani Bridge on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, a CRPF jawan among four persons were killed when a passenger bus hit a roadside parked Tata Mobile vehicle while attempting to avoid a collision with a motorcycle, here today.

Due to the crash, driver of the stranded Tata Mobile and two others, who were replacing tyre of the vehicle at that time and a CRPF jawan travelling in the bus, fell into nallah and died on the spot. In the accident, some other passengers travelling in the bus, were also injured.
According to the police report, the accident took place when the passenger bus bearing registration number JK02AS-4127 rammed into a Mahindra Tata Mobile vehicle (JK04J-6722) that was parked on the roadside. Three civilians changing tyre of the Tata Mobile at the time of the incident, were thrown off the bridge and fell into the adjoining nallah resulting into their death.

The impact of the crash was so severe that a CRPF personnel of the 52 Battalion, who was travelling in the bus, also fell off it and into the adjoining nallah resulting in his death. .
Bodies of all the deceased were later recovered by police personnel from the nallah. A woman among several passengers sustained injuries in the accident and were immediately shifted to District Hospital Udhampur for treatment.
The bus, which was on way from Chenani, rammed into the parked vehicle while attempting to avoid a collision with a motorcycle (JK14F-1057).
The deceased CRPF Jawan, namely Mukesh Prajapati, was posted in 52nd Battalion of the Force at Kishtwar. He was reportedly on his way to home on leave.
The deceased civilians were identified as Sanjeev Kumar (42) son of Ashok Kumar, resident of Rehmati; Rayes Ahmed, son of Mohd Shahban Ganai of Budgam and Ratan Lal (28), son of Mohan of Batote.
Police reached the scene soon after the accident and carried out rescue operations. Besides shifting the injured to hospital, police restored traffic on the highway stretch.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has condoled the loss of lives in the tragic road accident. In a condolence message, the Lieutenant Governor has said: “I am deeply pained by the loss of precious lives in the tragic road accident in Udhampur. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families in this hour of grief. Praying for a speedy recovery of the injured.”
