JAMMU, June 26: To create awareness amongst industrialists regarding the investment opportunities available across LoC and identify such strategies which can help in creating confidence amongst industrialists and masses, a day-long roundtable workshop was held at Jammu University, here today.
The event was organized by the School of Hospitality & Tourism Management & Department of Economics, JU in collaboration with Conciliation Resources UK.
Dr Parikshat Singh Manhas Associate Professor, School of Hospitality and Tourism Management was the Coordinator of the workshop. Prof Deepak Raj Gupta, Director, SHTM and Dr Dipankar Sen Gupta from Department of Economics played a vital role in conducting this workshop.
The workshop was attended by high ranking bureaucrats as well as industrialists of the State.
Robin Singh Mehta, Additional Commissioner in the Divisional Commissioner’s Office Jammu, said that bureaucrats must know more about cross LoC trade. He said that in case of cross LoC tourism we first have to ensure peace and stability in the region and subsequently rest of the things would follow.
Anil Suri, president of the Bari Brahmana Industries Association (BBIA) Jammu highlighted various limitations and speed breakers in between the cross LoC trade.
Y V Sharma, president Chamber of Commerce said that there should be some realistic approaches and somehow it is becoming imaginary these days.
Dr Farzana Gulzar, Assistant Professor, The Business School, University of Kashmir stated that we need to have a proper vision to implement various investment policies. Siraj Ahmed, chief spokesperson, Kashmir Economic Alliance, recommended that the Government should launch confidence building measures amongst industrialists and try to work out the pros and cons of the LoC trade.
Adeep Mehta, MD-MA Creations Co, said that basic infrastructure was not appropriate in J&K for cross LoC trade. According to Rakesh Gupta, president, Jammu Pharmaceutical Distributors Association the industrial process should be handed over to private setup or private partnerships. Shakun Sethi, Managing Director Dizuna Communications Pvt Ltd said that there is need to change the perception and mindsets.
Earlier, Dr Manhas initiated the proceedings and briefed the participants about basic theme of the roundtable and explained them backdrop of this meeting.
