Addressing media persons today, Superintendent of Police (South) Ajay Sharma said the operation exposed a well-organized module with direct links to Pakistani handlers. “Digital footprints of the accused confirmed their connection across the border. The network was being used to push narcotics and weapons as part of a larger narco-terror design aimed at destabilizing the country,” he said, adding, relevant provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) have been invoked.
The Officer said the investigation began with the arrest of Karan Sharma of Jourian and Nikhlesh Verma of Udhampur, from whom 3.26 kg of heroin was recovered. Subsequent raids led to the arrest of Mohammad Yousef in Narwal, financial handler Gulshan Kumar of Rajouri, and Jasvinder Kumar of Nowshera. Additional quantities of heroin were recovered from their possession. Gulshan’s vehicle-found to contain specially crafted concealed cavities for smuggling-was seized, while Jasvinder was already lodged in custody in a separate narcotics case.
He said further leads brought police to Shamdin of Nikki Tawi, from whose residence officers recovered a pistol, live cartridges, and 619 grams of heroin. Another accused, Abdul Hamid of Maraliya in RS Pura, is currently on the run; searches of his premises led to the recovery of two pistols, including an automatic weapon, and ammunition.
The SP said most members of the racket hail from regions close to the Indo-Pak border in Jammu, highlighting ongoing attempts by cross-border elements to exploit vulnerable border belts for narcotics trafficking and terror financing. He said a case under the NDPS Act has been registered at Gandhi Nagar Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
Police parties which made the arrest was led by SHO Gandhi Nagar Jaipaul Sharma.
