JAMMU, Nov 11: A 27-year-old criminal lost one of his hands after he was attacked by his rival gang in Miran Sahib area here, police said.
The victim, identified as Kulbir Bhagat alias Rinku of Langotian, was attacked by unidentified men carrying sharp weapons over some old animosity in Langotian Village on the intervening night of Sunday-Monday, they said, adding that in the attack, one of the hands of Rinku was severed.
He was initially taken to Sub-District Hospital RS Pura and later referred to Government Medical College Jammu for advanced treatment, they said.
Following the incident, police said, a case FIR number 1047/2025 under the relevant sections of the BNS and Arms Act was registered at Police Station Miran Sahib, and further investigation was initiated.
They said the injured individual has a long criminal record and was earlier detained under the Public Safety Act in 2024 for repeated criminal activities.
According to them, he was released from jail a few months ago and is wanted in several assault cases registered at Police Station Arnia and RS Pura.
An FSL team also visited the scene to collect scientific evidence.
They said the preliminary investigation suggests that the attack was carried out by a rival group.
Meanwhile, police have launched a hunt to identify and arrest all the accused involved in the case.
