RAMBAN, Feb 8: Scores of contingent paid workers (CPWs), land donors and cook cum helpers working with Education Department Ramban here today staged a protest demonstration under the banner of All Jammu and Kashmir Contingent Paid Workers & Cooks Education Employees Union.

They were demanding enhancement of wages, implementation of Minimum Wages Act and regularizations of their services.
The protesters said that they were performing their duties for the last two decades on merger wages of Rs 30 per day out of State contingent fund and are facing hardships in catering daily needs due to inflation.
A protesting cook, Javeed Ahmed said that most cooks were the sole bread earners of their families and demanded enhancement in honorarium and disbursement of honorarium on monthly basis without any break and regularization of their services.
Some land donors who donated their land for the construction of Schools said that they were promised by the School Education Department of providing jobs or compensation for land at the time of acquiring land but years have passed and they have got nothing.
The aggrieved protesters appealed to the Lieutenant Governor’s administration, Education Minister and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to intervene into the matter.
