Srinagar, Jun 17: CPI(M) leader and MLA Kulgam M.Y. Tarigami today urged the Centre to break its silence over Israel’s war on Iran and advocate for peace.
Speaking to reporters after a protest organised by the party, Tarigami said India has a long-standing tradition of standing for peace and justice, which must continue.
“We urge the Centre to stand with Palestine and in favour of Iran. It must break its silence and advocate for peace and justice so that the war ends,” he said.
He urged the Government of India to uphold its principled stance, consistent with its historical support for the Palestinian cause.
Tarigami accused global powers-especially the US and European nations-of remaining silent and even supporting Israel’s aggression against Iran, warning that the conflict could destabilise the entire region.
“The US is supporting the war on Iran. This poses a serious threat to world peace. World powers are silent and siding with Israel. The war on Iran will destabilise the region and could ignite a wider conflict,” he said.
He added that the people of Palestine are being subjected to grave injustices and termed the situation a global challenge, calling for an urgent end to the war and Israel’s ongoing “terrorism” in Palestine.
“People must speak up against this war and the atrocities committed on the people of Gaza. We demand an immediate halt to the war on Iran and an end to Israel’s terrorism in Palestine,” he said.
He described the CPI(M) protest as a symbolic act to ensure solidarity with voices opposing war-whether in Iran or Palestine.
The party expressed its unwavering support for the people of Palestine in their rightful pursuit of nationhood, dignity, and freedom, while demanding an immediate end to all military and security cooperation with Israel.
