Addressing media persons here, he said the Census will be conducted in two phases, with house listing from June 1 to June 30, 2026, preceded by a 15-day self-enumeration period from May 17 to May 31 through the portal “se.census.gov.in”, where citizens will fill a 33-question form.
The population enumeration will be conducted in September 2026 across Ladakh along with other snow-bound areas of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
He further announced that two dedicated Census workstations will be set up in the Planning, Development and Monitoring Department in collaboration with the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India to enable access to granular data for grassroots planning.
Highlighting the digital nature of the exercise, Sharma said data will be collected through mobile applications with in-built validation, while a web-based Census Management and Monitoring System developed by C-DAC will ensure real-time supervision.
He clarified that the Census is separate from the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and said enumerators will visit households with valid identity cards.
He added that training of officers is underway and assured that strong data security measures, including end-to-end encryption and secure data centres, have been put in place.
He urged people to actively participate, saying accurate data will guide Ladakh’s future development.
