COVID needs extraordinary response to combat it: Bakaya

JAMMU, May 13: Vijay Bakaya ex Chief Secretary and general secretary JK Apni Party while expressing his satisfaction over the announcement of measures by the LG , Manoj Sinha for ameliorating the distress caused to families of COVID victims by the death of their only bread earner, said the devastation caused by the pandemic is unprecedented and requires extraordinary responses to combat it.
Bakaya also pointed out that there is need to clarify whether financial assistance is to be provided only to senior citizens dependent on a COVID victim or to every such person irrespective of whether he or she is a senior citizen.
He was of the view that this financial assistance should be available those who are not senior citizens as well if they have been dependent solely on the COVID victim.
He stated that this would be an equitable order where age would not be the criterion for financial assistance to a dependent spouse.
Bakaya further said that while the administration was taking all steps necessary, there was need for greater transparency with regard to the preparedness of the administration as regards beds, Oxygen, ventilators as a confidence building measure.
He explained that this type of regular communication with the people was also necessary to explain the paradox of low infections but high fatality in Jammu.
Meanwhile Vinod Pandita, Coordinator Apni Party for Jammu demanded that all facilities be provided in migrant camps where people suffering from the pandemic. He demanded providing of all infrastructure to Jagti hospital for the treatment of patients.
