JAMMU, Mar 27: Railway Magistrate Jammu Yahaya Firdous while dealing with a bail application in the case relating to embezzlement of crores of rupees in Co-operative Societies, took serious note of investigation done by the Crime Branch.
The court also rejected the bail application of Surjit Singh, who is running registered Co-operative Societies meant for Rural Development Multipurpose having various branches in Jammu, Kathua and Udhampur districts and has embezzled money deposited by the people.
“The perusal of CD file reveals that even one month after the arrest of the accused, the statements of the complainants who deposited their amount with the society have not been recorded and even the IO has not succeeded in collecting prime evidence from these complainants which is a matter of concern”, the court said.
“The perusal of the CD file reveals that the sanction has been granted only to the extent of the applicant/accused whereas the IO has levelled offence under Section 120-B RPC”, the court further observed, adding “this part of the investigation of the Crime Branch is very surprising and disappointing keeping in view the alleged embezzlement of Rs 3.50 crore”.
Expressing concern over snail space investigation, the court directed the IO to speed up the investigation as the public interest and faith is involved. “It is expected that the Crime Branch would come to the expectation of all those complainants whose hard earned amount is on stake and have approached the primer investigation agency of the State”, the court further said.
