Court extends judicial custody of accused

JAMMU, Apr 6: Sub-Judge Jammu Jeewan Sharma has extended the judicial remand of the accused in the alleged attack on National Conference president and former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah till April 20, even as the investigation in the case is stated to be still incomplete.
According to the judicial remand, the accused, Kamal Singh Jamwal, son of late Ajit Singh Jamwal, a resident of Purani Mandi, Jammu, was produced in connection with FIR No. 29/2026 registered at Police Station Gangyal under Section 109 BNS and Sections 3/25 of the Arms Act.
The application for judicial remand was presented by Shariq Majeed, Inspector and member of the SIT. The accused, presently lodged in District Jail Amphalla, Jammu, was produced through virtual mode. After perusing the case diary, the court observed that the investigation was not yet complete and that the accused had not been admitted to bail.
The court accordingly remanded him to judicial custody till April 20, 2026, with directions to lodge him in District Jail, Jammu, and produce him before the competent Magistrate on or before the next date.
The case pertains to the alleged firing incident targeting Dr Farooq Abdullah on March 11, when he narrowly escaped after the accused opened fire while he was leaving a wedding function in Greater Kailash area of Jammu.
