Court convicts two persons in drug trafficking case

SRINAGAR, Oct 5: A local court here convicted two persons for commission of offence under NDPS Act.
The Special Judge NDPS cases, Srinagar convicted two persons for their involvement in illegal trade of psychotropic substances. The court convicted Mudasir Sultan Bhat alias and Feroz Ahmad Khan both residents of Bemina Srinagar, after finding them guilty under Sections 8/22 and 29 of the NDPS Act.
These two persons were arrested by the police after recovery of 7500 bottles of codeine phos-phate) and 9600 Zen-Cavit capsules in April 2021 during patrolling in Srinagar city’s Chanapora area after receiving a credible information about a truck used to transport seized consignment of illicit psychotropic substances.
The Police Station Crime Branch Kashmir after thorough investigation registered FIR under Section 8/22 of the NDPS Act against the accused with other persons.
In connection with the case, two other persons, Waseem Ahmad Lone and Faizan Ahmad Makaya, residents of Bemina, are yet to be arrested in the case and are facing proceedings under 512CrPC.
The two accused persons, along with the convicted, were receiving illicit psychotropic substances and distributing them among the youth. Accused-Mudasir was arrested on August 6, 2021, after he failed to provide satisfactory documentation for the illicit consignments,
While as accused-Feroz was arrested on January 10, 2022. He was recently released on bail. The court ordered him to be taken into custody while announcing the conviction against him. The quantum of punishment would be announced on October 10 against both the accused.
