Court awards 3-yrs imprisonment to CAPD official

SRINAGAR, Dec 3: A local court today awarded three years imprisonment to former Tehsil Officer of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Department over accepting bribe of Rs 10, 000.
Additional Judge Anti-Corruption Pulwama, Virinder Singh Bhou, convicted Mohammad Mansoor Malik, former Supervisor and Incharge Tehsil Officer CA&PD Circle Zainapora of  Shopian district to three years imprisonment and fine of Rs 25,000.
Malik was booked under J&K Prevention of Corruption Act in 2009 by Vigilance Organization Kashmir following a complaint by Sabzar Ahmad, who was running a fair Price Shop, that the former demanded and accepted Rs 10,000 as bribe for issuing a report in respect of various applications that had been endorsed to him by the Assistant Director CA&PD Department.
After probe, a case of criminal misconduct was registered against the accused Malik on the basis of evidence oral, documentary as well as circumstantial, and subsequently charge sheet was filed against him before the Special Judge Anti-corruption Kashmir. The Judge found the accused Malik guilty and convicted him for 2 years imprisonment for the commission of offence under section 5(2) J&K P.C Act and fine of Rs. 20000.
The accused was also ordered to undergo further imprisonment of 6 months in default of payment of fine. Further, the accused has also being convicted with simple imprisonment of one year and fine of Rs. 5000 for commission of offences under section 161 RPC. The convictions shall run concurrently.
