JAMMU, Oct 30: Principal Sessions Judge Kathua MA Chowdhary today awarded 10 years Rigorous Imprisonment and fine of Rs 1 lakh to Sudagar Mal, son of Bhuri Ram of Bhagocha Chak Hiranagar, who was arrested while smuggling charas.
While awarding sentence, Principal Sessions Judge observed, “the drug menace is eating into the vitals of the society by consuming the younger generation and it has penetrated its tentacles into the youth, who are future of this country, causing incalculable loss in terms of human resources besides rendering the drug addicts to a miserable life between death and life”.
“This menace also breeds other crimes in the society. In this backdrop, the offences under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act are required to be dealt with an iron hand and when a case is proved against a criminal, he is required to be dealt with sternly”, the court said.
