UDHAMPUR, Mar 24: A three-day training course on “Human Rights and the Criminal Justice System” commenced at the Sher-I-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA) in Udhampur today.
A statement said that the program, which is being attended by 24 J&K Police officers, is designed to provide them with crucial insights into incorporating human rights principles into policing practices.
The inaugural session was led by Rajinder Kumar Gupta, SSP, and Deputy Director (Indoor Training), who stressed the importance of law enforcement balancing security with respect for human dignity.
He emphasized that the police force plays a key role in safeguarding both the law and the fundamental rights of individuals.
During the course, officers will explore a range of topics, including the significance of human and fundamental rights, the roles of police, judiciary, and legal aid in the justice system, and the historical evolution of human rights in India.
Other key areas of focus will include the functioning of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and State Human Rights Commissions (SHRCs), police-media coordination in human rights protection, and the rights of women and children in the justice system.
The course will also address the challenges faced by law enforcement in enforcing human rights laws and examine issues related to human rights violations within the police force.
Experts from both law enforcement and academia will lead the sessions, providing valuable insights into these critical subjects.
Gupta, welcoming the participants on behalf of the Director of SKPA, emphasized that ethical policing is fundamental to ensuring justice and upholding human rights.
The course is being coordinated by Anil Raina, Inspector, with ASI Tara Singh providing assistance.
