KATHUA, Oct 22: A couple was found murdered at their residence in Dhanote in Lakhanpur area of Kathua district this morning.
The duo was identified as Amarjeet Singh, 65, who was a resident of Sujanpur, Punjab and his wife, Bhole Devi, 31. Singh had over three months back married to Bhole Devi who was a handicapped and it was his third marriage.
Police said that when the couple did not open the door in the morning up to late, their two children aged eight and four years who were from the second marriage of Amarjeet Singh opened the door and they saw their parents lying in a pool of blood. Both have received grievous injuries on their head.
They informed neighbors who brought the matter in the notice of Lakhanpur Police. The police after taking the bodies into its custody later handed over to the eldest son of Amarjeet who was residing at Sujanpur Punjab after postmortem and completion of other legal formalities.
Police said Amarjeet was basically a resident of Sujanpur in Punjab and he had also constructed one house in Madhavpur Punjab and another on Dhanote, Lakhanpur in J&K.
He was a retired employee of MES who had served most of his life in Kathua district and retired from here. After that he decided to settle in Lakhanpur.
Police has registered a case under Section 302 and started investigations. However, no arrest has been made so far. The Lakhanpur Police is also in touch with Punjab Police in this regard. The cause of murder has not been ascertained as yet.
Police said both have received injuries on their head with some sharp edged weapons and it was a plain case of double murder. Police is working on various theories as Amarjeet after his retirement was lending money to people on interest.
