Cops rescue 30 bovines, arrest 6 smugglers

KISHTWAR, Dec 15: Police here today rescued 30 bovines in two different incidents in Chatroo area and arrested six smugglers involved in the crime.
Cops from Police Station Chatroo led by SHO Chatroo, Inspector Vikram Singh, intercepted two persons at Singhpora area who were illegally transporting 26 bovine animals on foot through dense forest routes towards Kashmir for unlawful sale.
On questioning, the accused failed to produce any valid permission for inter-district transportation of bovine animals and a case in FIR No. 50/2025 under Section 223 BNS and Section 11 Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act was registered in this regard at Police Station Chatroo and investigation started.
In another operation, at Inter-District Naka in Chatroo on Sinthan Road cops led by SHO Chatroo and I/C Police Post Mughalmaidan, intercepted three vehicles bearing registration numbers JK04K-2888, JK17A-4500 and JK17-0373 moving from Kishtwar towards Kashmir.
During checking, cops found bovine animals were tied with ropes and loaded mercilessly inside the vehicles. The drivers and co-passengers admitted that they were transporting the bovines without obtaining mandatory permission from the District Magistrate. All accused persons were immediately arrested and the vehicles seized.
In this connection, FIR with nos. 48/2025, 49/2025 and 50/2025 under Section 223 BNS and Section 11 PC Act were registered at Police Station Chatroo and investigations started.
