Copper futures rise on global cues, spot demand

NEW DELHI, June 26:  Supported by a firm global trend and increased domestic demand, copper prices rose 0.20 per cent to Rs 369.05 per kg in futures trade today.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in current month (June) contracts traded higher by 75 paise, or 0.20 per cent, to Rs 369.05 per kg in business turnover of 904 lots.
The metal for delivery in far-month August edged up by 60 paise, or 0.16 per cent, to Rs 372.85 per kg in 236 lots.
Globally, copper for delivery in three months was little changed at USD 5,768.50 a tonne on the London Metal Exchange (LME), while in Shanghai, gained 0.3 per cent to 42,050 yuan (USD 6,772) per tonne.
Analysts said besides increased demand from consuming industries, a firming trend in base metals at the LME as investors looked to signs of stronger growth in the US and China amid a continued stand-off between Greece and its euro-area creditors, mainly influenced copper prices at futures trade.
