JAMMU, July 4: Consumer Welfare Association (CWA) deputation led by its president Vikram Gour met Dr Pathania, Director Health Services, Jammu to discuss and highlight patients woes in the hospitals functioning under Directorate of Health Services.
Mr Vikram was accompanied by SK Gupta, vice president of the Association, BM Kohli, general secretary and Chander Parkash Sharma, secretary.
The CWA members said it has been noticed that hospital staff on duty forces the attendants of the patients to purchase all necessary life saving drugs including some first aid items like bandage etc from the open market.
Dr Pathania reacted that immediate medical help including medicines are to be provided ‘free of cost’ to patients by hospitals yet there are complaints that some of the doctors on duty do prescribe such medicines that are not available in hospital stores, which is objectionable.
The CWA members further said that sanitation/cleanliness of wards, bath-rooms, adjoining areas and food served to the patients in the hospitals is not prepared under hygienic conditions and quality is far from satisfactory, adding there is scarcity of blood in the blood bank and lack of ambulance services.
Dr Pathania maintained that although maximum effort is being made to keep hospital premises clean yet the shortage of staff and heavy rush of patients make things difficult.
Regarding blood bank, Dr Pathania said that it is essential that civil society and the Health Department jointly create awareness among the public for donating more blood.
