Construction of unique clock tower continues in Shopian

SRINAGAR, Aug 11: The under construction Clock Tower at Gole Chowk in Shopian District of South Kashmir, is a unique construction of its kind, will provide people with not only time but also many other important information.
The 52-feet-tall tower, built by Municipal Council Shopian, was designed by Rafi Saqib Architects and is being built under the supervision of the R&B Department.
Built in Gole Chowk, which has a historical status and is a special center of movement of people, this tower is the first triangular tower in Jammu and Kashmir in terms of its structure.
Assistant Engineer Roads and Buildings Muhammad Mubarak said that the height of this tower is 52 feet. He said that its design is also unique and in addition to the clock, a biometrics board will also be installed which will act as a notice board and various departments will put notices on it.
He said the tower would also provide information regarding temperature, weather information and air pollution.
The tower would be inaugurated by September 1, the engineer said.
Najam-ul-Saqib, owner of the firm called Rafi Saqib Architects, told that about the project, which is being completed in a very limited time.
He said that the design of this clock tower is unique in its nature which is based on more modern than traditional.
He said that this is the first triangular tower in Jammu and Kashmir, each face of which faces a path.
He said that it would not only take hours to tell the time in this tower but also pollution meters and surveillance cameras would be installed in it.
He said that this would be an ideal construction in the district. He said that this construction is being completed in a short time and its construction work has been going on for the last two and a half months.
Javid Azad, executive officer of the Municipal Council Shopian, said that in addition to monitoring the tower, it would also provide information to the public about the weather and air pollution.
