JAMMU, Nov 26: Various educational institutions and organizations across Jammu and Kashmir held a series of academic, cultural, and awareness activities to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India, with this year’s observance centred on the theme “Hamara Samvidhan – Hamara Swabhiman” (Our Constitution – Our Pride).
To mark the occasion, a ceremony was organized in the Jammu wing of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh. Justice Arun Palli, Chief Justice, J&K and Ladakh High Court, read out the preamble to the Constitution. He was accompanied by judges, judicial officers and officials from the Registry, who joined in reciting the Preamble. The ceremony was graced by the presence of Justice Sindhu Sharma, Justice Rajnesh Oswal, Justice Javed Iqbal Wani, Justice Mohd Akram Chowdhary, Justice Rahul Bharti, Justice Moksha Khajuria Kazmi, Justice Mohd Yousuf Wani and Justice Shahzad Azeem, among others.
The event was also attended by Mohinder Kumar Sharma, Registrar General, HC of J&K and Ladakh; Naseer Ahmed Dar, Director, J&K State Judicial Academy; Rajiv Gupta, Registrar Vigilance; Ajay Kumar Gupta, Registrar Inspection, Srinagar; Amit Sharma, District & Sessions Judge (LRP); Faizan-ul-Haq Iqbal, Registrar Rules; Swati Gupta, Registrar Judicial; Umesh Sharma, Registrar Computer (IT); Baldev Raj, Registrar Recruitment; Pankaj Kumar Gupta, Registrar Infrastructure/Estates; Meyank Gupta, Joint Registrar (Judicial/Protocol); Sunil Kumar, Secretary, High Court Legal Services Committee and Faizan-l- Nazar, Central Project Coordinator e-Courts.
District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Jammu commemorated the Day by organizing a program today at District Court Complex, Janipur (Jammu) under the supervision of Principal District and Sessions Judge Jammu, RN Watal, (Chairman DLSA Jammu) and overall supervision of Maleeka Sharma, Secretary, DLSA. R N Watal, read the Preamble of the Constitution along with all Judicial Officers of District Court Jammu, Staff, Panel Lawyers and PLVs. In her address, Maleeka Sharma emphasized that the true test of our democracy lies in the values we nurture – independence of institutions, respect for dissent, protection of minorities, and unwavering commitment to justice.
Another programme was also organized at MIET College, Kot Bhalwal Jammu, under the supervision of R N Watal and overall supervision of Maleeka Sharma. The Panel Lawyer Uma Kapahi stressed upon the principles of the Constitution and to create a brighter future for all citizens of India. In her speech, Maleeka encouraged students to embrace constitutional values, adopt technological advancements in the justice system and cultivate constitutional literacy.
The Constitution Day was celebrated by DLSA Udhampur at District Court Complex Udhampur. The program was held under the guidance and supervision of Virinder Singh Bhou, Principal District & Sessions Judge and Chairman DLSA Udhampur, and Sumati Sharma, Secretary, DLSA Udhampur. Virinder Singh Bhou read the preamble of the Constitution, which was followed by a collective reading by all participants. Kamlesh Pandit, Additional District and Sessions Judge Udhampur, delivered a speech on the significance of Constitution Day. The Day was also celebrated at TLSCs Ramnagar, Majalta and Chenani.
DLSA Rajouri, in collaboration with the District Judiciary, held its observance at the District Court Complex under the patronage of Chairman Rajinder Sapru and supervision of Secretary Shama Sharma. Judicial Officers, court staff, LADCs, panel lawyers, bar members, and PLVs participated in the programme. Shama Sharma opened the event by stressing the importance of spreading constitutional awareness. This was followed by the collective reading of the Preamble led by Rajinder Sapru, reaffirming the legal fraternity’s commitment to safeguarding constitutional principles and promoting justice at the grassroots level.
University of Jammu (JU) observed ‘Samvidhan Divas’ with great enthusiasm across its departments. Department of Buddhist Studies marked the Day with a Preamble reading and insightful lectures by Dr Vivek Sharma and Dr Rajesh Sharma. They emphasized safeguarding constitutional values while urging students to uphold their constitutional duties.
Department of Law observed the Day through an oath-taking of the Preamble and addresses by Prof Arvind Jasrotia and Prof Manju Jamwal. They reflected on the historical significance of the Constitution, its transformative ideals, and the responsibility of legal scholars in nurturing constitutional values.
Department of Political Science organized a workshop on ‘Constitutionalism in India: Emerging Trends and Challenges’. Speakers, including Prof Baljit Singh Mann, Prof Suneel Kumar and Dr Mool Raj, discussed the evolution, philosophical foundations, and contemporary challenges to constitutionalism. Students presented perspectives on constitutional history, rights and duties, federalism and judicial trends.
The School of Law, University of Kashmir, observed Constitution Day with a programme aimed at promoting constitutional literacy and core democratic values. Vice-Chancellor Prof Nilofer Khan emphasized the Constitution’s role as both a legal framework and a moral guide, while senior faculty including Prof Khursheed Butt, Prof Naseer Iqbal and Prof Shahnaz highlighted responsible citizenship, equality and the document’s historical significance. Students shared reflections on its contemporary relevance. The event, attended by university officials, concluded with a pledge to uphold justice, liberty, equality and fraternity.
Central Library Chatha and Faculty Library R S Pura of SKUAST-Jammu marked the occasion by unveiling a full-colour authenticated replica of the original Constitution of India, now placed in the rare documents section. University Librarian Prof R K Samnotra traced the Constitution’s historical evolution, linked its ideals to scientific temper and inclusive agricultural growth, and highlighted national commemorative milestones of 2025. A Preamble reading, oath ceremony and a student exhibition were also held with wide participation.
At BGSBU, Vice Chancellor Prof Jawaid Iqbal led the Preamble reading and stressed the enduring relevance of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity. He planted a tree at the Department of Management Studies and signed the Constitution Wall to reinforce civic responsibility. Various departments conducted quizzes, symposiums, poster events and documentary screenings to deepen understanding of constitutional history. Students, faculty and staff participated actively across campus.
IIM Jammu marked National Constitution Day with a series of solemn and patriotic programmes. The ceremony featured the presence of Prof Jabir Ali, Dean Faculty and Research, and Dr Harsha Jariwala, co-chairperson, Student Affairs, along with faculty members. The programme began with the collective reading of the Preamble, followed by student speeches and cultural performances celebrating India’s unity and democratic heritage. The evening witnessed a spectacular BSF Dog Show and band performance, culminating in patriotic musical tributes.
NIT Srinagar observed the Day under the supervision of In-charge Director Prof Roohie Naaz Mir, who presided over the event as chief guest. The programme included the collective reading of the Preamble in Hindi and English. Prof Roohie highlighted the Constitution as a guiding force for nation-building, while Registrar Prof Atikur Rehman emphasized the role of institutions in upholding fairness, inclusivity, and justice. The event concluded with a pledge to strengthen democratic values and promote constitutional literacy.
Dogra Law College observed Samvidhan Diwas with DLSA Samba, its Legal Aid Clinic, NSS Unit and Extra-Curricular Committee. Distinguished guests were presented saplings before student speakers addressed themes on the Preamble and Dr Ambedkar’s constitutional vision. A skit depicted core democratic values, followed by addresses on legal awareness and a collective Preamble reading. Senior members of the Dogra Educational Trust attended the event.
MIER College of Education marked National Integration Week with activities promoting unity and communal harmony. A poster-making competition showcased interpretations of India’s cultural diversity, while NSS volunteers held a cultural programme at Government Middle School, Jinder Khurd, under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan. The observance concluded with a National Integration Pledge. Principal Prof Adit Gupta acknowledged the efforts of the NSS unit.
PTTI Vijaypur held a Preamble reading led by Principal Ranjit Singh Sambyal, who underlined the significance of the Constitution’s adoption in 1949 and the duty of police personnel to uphold it in letter and spirit. Staff and trainees participated in the observance, which saw the presence of Vice Principal Pawan Kumar Sharma, Deputy SP Davinder Gupta, Deputy SP Khushwant Singh and Senior PO Asif Iqbal.
Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) organized programmes at its Sempora campus in Kashmir and Bari Brahmana campus in Jammu. Khalid Jahangir, Secretary Industries and Commerce Department and Director JKEDI, presided over the event at the JKEDI Regional Campus in Jammu. A pledge ceremony was conducted to reaffirm commitment to uphold the Constitution in its true spirit. The Day was also observed in JKEDI’s district offices, where District Nodal Officers and faculty members spoke on various aspects of the Constitution.
J&K State Council of Educational Research and Training (JKSCERT), Jammu observed the Day at its Divisional Office. The event was held under the mentorship of Shantmanu, Financial Commissioner, Additional Chief Secretary and Director SCERT J&K and the guidance of Prof (Dr) Sindhu Kapoor, Joint Director SCERT Jammu Division. The ceremony began with solemn reading of the Preamble in both English and Dogri. Later, four educational videos were launched on key constitutional themes.
Zonal Police Headquarters Jammu observed Constitution Day with a pledge ceremony reaffirming commitment to constitutional values. The event was led by Shamsheer Hussain, SO to IGP Jammu, who administered the pledge to officers and staff. He highlighted the enduring importance of democratic principles and stressed that police personnel must uphold fairness, transparency and the rule of law in public service.
Directorate of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) celebrated Constitution Day with great enthusiasm, reaffirming commitment to the ideals and values enshrined in the Constitution of India. The event began with a collective pledge to uphold constitutional values, fundamental rights and fundamental duties in everyday life. Director General, DYSS J&K, Anuradha Gupta, accompanied by Deputy Director Central, Angel Kotwal and other officers participated in the ceremony. In her address, she highlighted the visionary role of Dr B R Ambedkar and other members of the Constituent Assembly in drafting the longest written constitution in the world.
National College of Education, Purkhoo Camp, in collaboration with IQAC, observed Constitution Day with strong patriotic spirit. The programme featured a collective reading of the Preamble, followed by a pledge to uphold constitutional values. Students participated in a seminar and poster-making competition on themes such as ‘Our Constitution Our Pride’ and ‘Justice for All’.
A special Charcha-e-Khas session featuring Retired Judge Subash Gupta in conversation with Dr Parveen Yog Raj discussed the significance of National Constitution Day, recalling the adoption of the Constitution in 1949 and the foundational work of Dr BR Ambedkar and the Constituent Assembly. The discussion covered the Preamble, key constitutional structures, democratic values, etc.
GDC Kastigarh marked the Day with a collective reading of the Preamble and a lecture on constitutional values. The event highlighted the importance of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity, emphasizing the role of citizens in strengthening democratic ethos. Students and staff actively participated in discussions The programme concluded with a call for deeper constitutional awareness and responsible citizenship among the youth.
The Day was observed at GDC Thannamandi with a solemn Preamble reading in the college assembly area. The gathering reaffirmed commitment to justice, liberty, equality and fraternity, followed by an address on the Constitution’s continuing relevance. Faculty and students took a pledge to uphold constitutional ideals and fulfill civic duties. The event ended with emphasis on nurturing constitutional awareness.
GDC Bishnah celebrated the Day alongside the release of its College Bulletin. The programme included lamp lighting, tribute to Dr B R Ambedkar, Preamble reading and a cultural presentation. An inter-college symposium on the role of youth in safeguarding constitutional values brought together participants from multiple institutions. Students presented ideas on democratic participation and constitutional literacy.
To mark the occasion, GDC Paloura organized a lecture on ‘Hamara Samvidhan-Hamara Swabhiman’, highlighting the importance of constitutional values. A seminar on the theme Justice, Liberty, Equality, Fraternity and a poster-making competition were organized. Faculty and students took part in a pledge ceremony reaffirming commitment to democratic ideals. The programme saw enthusiastic participation.
GDC R S Pura marked Constitution Day with a collective reading of the Preamble led by an NCC cadet. Students and staff reaffirmed their dedication to justice, liberty, equality and fraternity. A brief address highlighted the importance of constitutional literacy and responsible citizenship in democratic society. The programme concluded with a pledge to uphold constitutional spirit and promote inclusivity.
In GDC Majalta, the Day was observed with a mass reading of the Preamble in English and Hindi, promoting understanding of constitutional ideals among students. The event highlighted the significance of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity, encouraging participants to internalize these principles. Faculty and students actively took part in discussions focused on constitutional literacy.
GDC Akhnoor marked Constitution Day with paying tributes to Dr B R Ambedkar by Principal Prof (Dr) Romilla Malla Bhat, and a collective Preamble reading. Chief guest, Mohan Lal Bhagat, MLA Akhnoor, stressed civic responsibility and constitutional literacy. Students presented cultural activities and speeches. The event was organized by Dr Shandliya Perminder Kour and Dr Sandhya Rani.
Government Polytechnic College Jammu observed the Day with a pledge ceremony led by Principal Talet Mahmood, who highlighted justice, liberty, equality and fraternity as national foundations. Faculty, staff and students collectively read the Preamble under Chamel Singh and Vicky Sharma. A brief talk on Dr BR Ambedkar’s constitutional vision followed.
GDC Darhal commemorated Constitution Day with a collective reading of the Preamble, reaffirming commitment to justice, liberty, equality and fraternity. The programme highlighted the importance of respecting the rule of law and the role of citizens in nation-building. Faculty members and students participated in the pledge with dedication, reflecting awareness of democratic responsibilities.
In GCW Bhagwati Nagar, the Day was observed with a Preamble reading followed by an address on the significance of constitutional values. Students participated in a poster-making competition and seminar on governance, duties and democratic responsibilities. Discussions focused on applying constitutional principles in daily life. The programme concluded with the National Anthem.
GDC Vijaypur began its week-long Samvidhaan Divas celebration with a Preamble reading and documentary screening on the Constitution’s making. Students engaged in discussions on the drafting process and relevance of constitutional values in contemporary society. The programme aimed to strengthen civic awareness and deepen understanding of the Constitution as a living document shaping democratic governance and responsible citizenship.
To mark the Day, GDC Kakryal organized a Preamble reading and pledge ceremony, involving students, faculty and staff. An awareness lecture highlighted the Constitution’s historical background and its relevance today. Students also shared reflections on rights, duties and democratic participation. The event promoted understanding of constitutional values and encouraged responsible citizenship.
GDC Mahanpur celebrated Constitution Day under the theme ‘Justice, Liberty, Equality, Fraternity’. Activities included lamp lighting, tribute to Dr BR Ambedkar, a documentary screening and Preamble reading in English, Hindi and Dogri. A lecture on the Constitution’s contemporary relevance was delivered, emphasizing its role in democratic governance. Students and staff participated with interest.
In GDC Sidhra, a pledge ceremony was organized. The pledge was administered by the NSS and Electoral Literacy Committee. Faculty, staff and students collectively reaffirmed commitment to the Preamble’s guiding principles. A brief address highlighted the work of the Drafting Committee and the significance of the Indian Constitution as one of the world’s most detailed frameworks for governance.
GDC Ramnagar celebrated the Day with a Preamble reading and a lecture on the unique features of the Indian Constitution, including federalism, fundamental rights and directive principles. A documentary on the Constitution’s formation provided insight into its drafting and historical context. Participants reflected on democratic values and the need for responsible citizenship.
Vishwa Bharati Higher Secondary School observed the Day with a Preamble reading and speeches highlighting the significance of the Constitution and the role of its framers. The main attraction was an inter-house Constitution Quiz focusing on fundamental rights, directive principles and government structure.
Jammu and Kashmir All Departments Clerical Staff Association (Ministerial Federation) observed Constitution Day in Srinagar and declared that November 26 will henceforth be celebrated as “Ministerial Staff Day” across the UT. A spokesperson said the observance marks the adoption of the Constitution in 1949 and reminds employees to uphold justice, liberty, equality and fraternity in administrative work.
BLSKS with Sangam Tru Art Production organised a cultural programme at Music Institution Hall, Durga Bhawan Janipur, focusing on constitutional values and traditional culture. Chief Guest V K Magotra addressed themes of rights, duties and democratic participation. Patriotic songs, nukkad natak on drug demand reduction and compositions by Dr M L Dogra were presented.
Mission Statehood president Sunil Dimple held a demonstration at Janipur-High Court Road, seeking restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood and special status. He urged the Centre to bring a bill in the upcoming parliamentary session and criticized political parties for insufficient action.
Little Angels High School, Udhampur, marked the occasion with strong community participation, featuring an address by MLA Udhampur East, Ranbir Singh Pathania. Students presented thematic performances, participated in interactive sessions and joined a collective Preamble reading.
