JAMMU, Aug 29: A team of senior Congress leaders, including working president PCC, Raman Bhalla, Yogesh Sawhney and Ved Mahajan besides others today visited rain & flood affected areas in Jammu city and took stock of prevailing situation arising out of heavy rains & floods and the problems being faced by the people of these areas.
They visited Rajiv Colony behind Jammu University in Ward No. 19, Lower Gujjar Nagar in Ward No.6, New Company Bagh and Old University Lane.
Bhalla also visited the worst flood affected locality Barmini in Sunjawan, from where 35 families consisting of 198 souls have been uprooted and taken shelter in a school. He said that there is urgent need of providing them shelter and ex gratia relief. Bhalla urged upon the administration to take immediate measures for their rehabilitation on permanent basis.
Expressing serious concern over the situation arising out of heavy rains and flood in various localities of low lying areas of Jammu City, Bhalla said that the Government must take the plight of people seriously, in view of heavy losses in these areas. He assured people that Congress party will leave no stone unturned in highlighting the problems of people and extending all sort of help to affected people of these areas.
Urging upon the authorities, Bhalla said that there is need for taking immediate measures for the safety of the people. He demanded that loss of household goods and damage of houses be assessed immediately in order to provide them relief and compensation, besides demanding immediate release of ex-gratia relief to the worst affected families.
Other prominent who accompanied Bhalla included Varinder Manhas, Ram Magotra, Rakesh Sharma, Ajay Kumar, Vijay Singh, Atul Sharma, Paras Basin, Rishav Shibu and others.
Meanwhile, PCC leaders handed over food items to Indian Youth Congress observer for J&K Mahan Singh Rathore who is leading a team of Pradesh Youth Congress to help the flood victims. Rathore is accompanied by Faiz Dewan, Anirudh Sawhney, Anmol Kohli, Mehul Abrol, Soowkat Muttaib, Navjot Singh and others, who are on job of disbursing food items to the most affected families on behalf of the party.
